The Effect of Energy Healing on Behavioral Symptoms of Persons with Dementia

In an article in the February 2005 edition of the journal Alternative Therapies in Health and Medicine entitled 'The effect of therapeutic touch on behavioral symptoms of persons with dementia' researchers at the College of Nursing, University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences found that energy healing (therapeutic touch is a popular energy healing modality) significantly reduced "overall behavioral symptoms of dementia, manual manipulation (restlessness) and vocalization" in a study of 57 residents aged 67 to 93 years.

The article provided the following background information about the state of Alzheimer's disease in America today:

"Approximately 80% of nursing home residents who suffer from Alzheimer's disease and related dementia develop behavioral symptoms of dementia. Given the deleterious side effects of pharmacologic therapy in this population there is an urgent need for clinical trials of nonpharmacologic interventions."

The most amazing thing about this study was that the "intervention consisted of therapeutic touch given twice daily for 5-7 minutes for three days"! Can you imagine the results if the participants received 30-minute or 60-minute energy healing sessions? Or if the study lasted for a few weeks instead of only three days?

If such significant results can be obtained in such a short amount of time, there's no reason why each resident in every nursing home on the planet couldn't receive a similar treatment daily. Can you imagine the impact this would have on these individuals and their families?
